Digging deep into the footwear archives has become a major trend in the industry in the last few years as oft-forgotten models find new life in the modern-day landscape of sneaker trends. The rise of gorpcore and utilitarian function-over-form designs from the likes of Salomon has opened the floodgates for sneakers that may not look the most stunning but offer practical performance. Over at Nike, the Air Footscape Woven fits this bill as the fusion of the Air Footscape and Air Woven models offered a form-fitting piece of footwear in the early 2000s, though it only has made a handful of appearances since its OG release. Now in 2023, Nike is bringing back the model in classic form with the “Black Smoke Grey” colorway being one of the most wearable seen so far.
Covered in a faux hide material throughout the upper, the sneaker features a woven thread material that looks similar to a wicker basket all throughout. This aforementioned black faux hide lands on the toebox and wraps around the medial collar while the asymmetrical look is created by the large grey woven portion covering most of the lateral side. For its lacing system, an angled tongue helps hug your foot and provide a more natural fit when on your feet and comes laden with embroidered “Nike” text. Underfoot sits a Phylon midsole in white while the grey rubber outsole with a lugged traction pattern completes the look.
The Nike Air Footscape Woven Black Smoke Grey is set to release on October 10, 2023 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
