Back in 2006, Nike's All Conditions Gear division introduced the Watercat. As its name sort of implies, this silhouette was made for all kinds of water-going adventures and was equipped with an extra grippy midsole dubbed Sticky Rubber. The problem was, the Watercat was never the most aesthetically-pleasing model, and it quickly became an inside joke among outdoor explorers that it was one of the ugliest shoes that anyone could buy. With that said, 17 years after it originally released, the Beaverton-based sportswear company is ready to give it another shot with the Nike ACG Watercat+ "Court Purple" - and here's everything that we know so far.
Featuring more-or-less the same shape and structure of the initial pair, Nike ACG has swapped out the ten textile ribbons across the lateral and medial sidewalls with an intricately-woven upper that lets water in and out with ease, whilst offering ample protection. Thin strips of leather run around the outside of the Watercat+ as well as the lacing system, which is actually secured via a rugged toggle switch setup. The iconic triangular "ACG" logo hits the tongue and heel, and all of this sits on top of a refreshed summit white midsole unit that's as grippy as the original, just without the weird Sticky Rubber name.
The Nike ACG Watercat+ Court Purple is set to release on April 28th, 2023 in men's sizes for $125 alongside the "Black" that we previewed at the end of last year. Expected to drop at Nike, the SNKRS app, and select online and in-store retailers, make sure you keep it locked on Sole Retriever's Twitter and Mobile App for your best chance to cop!
