NIGO, the Japanese streetwear legend and founder of BAPE, has been a force in the fashion and sneaker worlds for decades, and the London Design Museum is finally giving him his flowers. Opening this weekend, NIGO: From Japan with Love, is an exhibit of NIGO’s career and work, including at least one new Nike collab on the Air Force 1.
Following previews of the upcoming NIGO x Nike Air Force 1 Low '01 Last Orgy 2, the gift shop of the Design Museum of London has given us another look at a recent NIGO x Nike AF1 collab. Displaying one of 50 collab pairs, the NIGO x Nike Air Force 1 '01 Triple White 2GO Promo Sample is yet another take on the 2001 Air Force 1 silhouette with its narrower, more athletic design.
On the Triple-White collab, NIGO calls back to how he got his name, with “ni,” the Japanese word for 2, replaced by the number 2 followed by GO embroidered at the heel. NIGO means “second” in Japanese, a reference to NIGO’s status behind his design mentor, fragment design founder Hiroshi Fujiwara.
We’re not quite sure where the other 49 pairs of the NIGO x Nike Air Force 1 '01 Triple White 2GO Promo Sample are, but if you happen to be in London next month, stop by the Design Museum to check out this pair and more of NIGO’s work.
