There’s no question that New Balance has been killing it lately. Not only can we look at the brand’s financial performance as an indicator of this, but culturally, the brand that, at one point, was scoffed at as “dad shoe” makers, has a newfound energy in the sneaker and fashion community. Not resting on its hit silhouettes like other labels, NB has been working in the kitchen developing a slew of new models, including the ABZORB 2000, which was previewed once again in São Paulo, Brazil.

In the lead-up to the model’s launch later this year, New Balance has taken a localized approach for the rollout of the 2000. First, the brand seeded pairs to Brazilian artist Coeio and stylist Gustavo Soares, who provided the initial looks at the sneaker in January. Next, NB teamed up with long-time partner and retailer Slam Jam for a special pop-up in Milan, Italy. For this recent trip to São Paulo, the New Balance team enlisted local artists and tastemakers to rock various colorways.

Here, we can see the initial baby blue colorway alongside more traditional NB colors, like an all-over grey and a Triple Black. Gradient color palettes on the mesh base of a blue and grey and a bright pink variant show the versatility of the viz-tech-heavy Y2K design. Of course, the chunky spring-like midsole with visible ABZORB pods is the star, a design language not often associated with the Boston-based label.

While release info surrounding the New Balance ABZORB 2000 is scarce, we know the sneaker is expected to release soon. Sole Retriever can confirm that at least 13 different colorways are planned.
