Skateboarders have always made do with what they have. From backyard wooden ramps to concrete skateparks constructed with Quikcrete and ingenuity instead of city permits, skateboarding evolved with a DIY ethos. Skaters have made do when it comes to shoes, too, repurposing flat-soled basketball, soccer, and tennis shoes long before the skate shoe market was a major factor in the industry.
Made for the Court and Pitch, Perfected on the Streets
At New Balance Numeric, NB’s skate program is on its own, with a completely separate home base in Southern California, all the way across the country from the brand’s Boston headquarters. The Numeric team still has plenty of access to the New Balance archive, though, and the label’s latest drops follow suit, with two new colorways each of the old-school basketball 480 and modern soccer hybrid 442.
