New Balance updated the classic 991 silhouette in 2023 with the v2 iteration, bringing the Steven Smith-designed sneaker into the modern day. So far, the silhouette has emerged in plenty of inline and collaborative variants and, thanks to Stone Island, is soon launching in three new colorways. In addition, a new inline version dubbed After Midnight has appeared.
As with all Flimby, UK, constructed sneakers, the model has impeccable construction and premium materials. Pigskin suede in a deep midnight navy shade lands on the mudguard, midfoot, eyelets, and heel overlay. Below this sits a silver-grey mesh, invisible along the toe, collar, tongue, and midfoot portions. Silver lands on the N logo and the branding window that hosts 991 text on the lateral heel, while more silver-grey hits the lace set, tongue branding, and heel tab. The sneaker’s origins are proudly displayed along the tongue tag with Made in England text, with the new v2 variant being distinguished via v2 logos on the heel tab and along the tongue. Underfoot sits a two-tone grey and cream foam midsole with FuelCell cushioning and a black rubber outsole.
The New Balance 991v2 Made in UK After Midnight will release in 2024 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $250.
