One of the most iconic series of sneakers in the industry, the New Balance 99X line began way back in the 80s and has since become a staple in the wardrobes of fashion-forward individuals and likely your dad who’s cutting the lawn in his decades-old pair. While only on the 6th iteration of the 990 (aptly dubbed the 990v6), the latest innovation in the line sees New Balance’s latest cushioning system, FuelCell foam, injected into the sole unit while modernizing the upper’s design. Seen so far in a few inline colors, “Grey,” “Black,” and “Grey Navy,” as well as a collaboration with Action Bronson in “Multi-Color,” “Lapis Lazuli,” and “Volt Green,” the New Balance 990v6 is receiving a “Navy” makeover.
Suede panels across the upper of the silhouette take on shades of dark navy that match the tonally-shaded mesh underlay below. Like many 99X models, the toebox features leather overlays with this pair taking on more shades of navy in this location. Tonal greys land on the lace set and sockliner while we see branding come in silver on the “N” logo, 990 text, and the tongue tag’s New Balance 990v6 emblem. More hits of silver land on the collar’s leather overlay while the heel’s Made In USA tag and NB logo come in a grey hue. Underfoot sits a two-tone foam midsole in grey/white paired with a black, grey, and white rubber outsole.
The New Balance 990v6 Navy is set to release in 2023 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $200.
