If you were heavy in the sneaker game at the beginning of the decade, you almost certainly remember the hold the New Balance 2002R Protection Pack had on the community. Dropping at the height of New Balance’s hype, the stacked, rough-cut leather paneling of the Protection Pack came to define the success of the 2002R silhouette and a new era of mesh and suede NB lifestyle models.
Now, after four years of new renditions and remixes, the original New Balance 2002R Protection Pack is returning in the three debut colorways: Sea Salt, Rain Cloud, and Phantom. The Sea Salt colorway is a monochrome sheet of nearly white suede and mesh with subtle red and blue accents. The Phantom keeps the monochrome idea going with a dark grey, almost black blend of suede and mesh with a weathered black midsole underfoot.

The Rain Cloud colorway is the star of the pack, just like it was in 2021, with a multi-tone mix of light and grey suede that plays into New Balance’s classic color heritage and creates a dreary sky across the entire upper.
The New Balance 2002R Protection Pack will be released November 18, 2025 through New Balance online. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150. For all the latest New Balance news and drop info, download the Sole Retriever mobile app.
