Foam-based slip-on silhouettes have become inescapable in the last year with every brand under the sun, some more blatantly than others, trying to recreate the hype that the Yeezy Slide and Yeezy Foam RNNR silhouettes have captured. While Jordan Brand has its own version of this silhouette, the Jordan System.23, Nike is looking to the co-founder of 1017 Alyx 9SM and the current creative director of Givenchy, Matthew M Williams, to create a high-fashion take on this trend. Already appearing in a stealthy all-black look and neutral grey, the latest Matthew M Williams x Nike MMW 5 is getting a "Volt" makeover.
Coming in a two-piece foam construction, the entire upper of this foam-based mule is covered in bright volt green. Around the squared-off toe and forefoot, various perforations add depth to the design and aid in the breathability of the silhouette. Co-branding between MMW and Nike is located on the spine of the forefoot with the initials of the famous designer and the Nike Swoosh debossed on the mold of the foam. Working along the profile, more perforations near the toe come in an organic shape while the footbed gets covered in perforations not too far off from those seen on the toebox. Rounding out the look is the black foam outsole with even more perforations, some even peeking through to the footbed.
The Matthew M Williams x Nike MMW 5 Volt is slated to release on June 9, 2023 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men's sizing, retail is set at $190. Keep it locked to our Twitter and the Sole Retriever mobile app for updates on all future sneaker releases.
