Brooklyn-based designer Martine Ali, renowned for her standout silver chain jewelry and a keen embrace of 90s grunge culture, is carving her niche in the sneaker world through notable collaborations with Converse. Following the success of the Deluxe Wedge variant of the Converse Chuck 70, Converse has once again enlisted Ali's creative prowess. This time, she reimagines the iconic Chuck Taylor silhouette into the Chuck 70 XXHi, a bold transformation that elevates the sneaker into a knee-high boot.
The Martine Ali x Converse Chuck 70 XXHi retains the essence of the Chuck Taylor while introducing a radical design overhaul. This all-over canvas, knee-high boot iteration respects the original sneaker's heritage by including signature elements such as the rubberized toe cap, metallic eyelets, and the iconic star patch on the medial side. However, Ali infuses the design with her unique touch by incorporating lockdown straps and metallic silver hardware, lending a grunge-inspired edge to the overall aesthetic. A zipper running along the spine of the heel enhances functionality, allowing for effortless wearability, while Martine Ali branding on the heel's sole endorses the collaboration. Completing the design is a black vulcanized rubber midsole paired with a dark gum rubber outsole, ensuring durability and style go hand in hand.
The Martine Ali x Converse Chuck 70 XXHi W will release March 21, 2024, through Nike SNKRS, Converse, and select retailers online and in-store. Available in women’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
