Marimekko Teams Up With adidas Once Again For A Collaborative Footwear Capsule

For adidas, their collaborative efforts have fallen flat in terms of expectations as Beyonce’s IVY PARK, Pharrell Williams’ Human Race, and Bad Bunny’s superstar name have not yet been able to fill the void recently left by a departed Yeezy. Still, we continue to see The Three Stripes reach out to collaborators to spark interest in the German sportswear giant with the latest being a continuation of their partnership with Finnish brand Marimekko.

With a deep history in textiles, furniture, and design in general, Marimekko brings 60s colors and design details to a series of adidas silhouettes, including the Ultraboost 1.0, Supernova 2.0, Court Revival, Aqualette Ocean Clog, Superstar, and NMD_R1. Across each of the models, we see similar construction normally found on a standard inline adidas release with Marimekko bringing dot patterns and a color palette from the mid-20th century to these modern-day classics. Highlights include the Aqualette Ocean Clog which sees a large, exaggerated creamy sole unit paired with soft blues, greys, and vibrant orange, and the NMD_R1 which takes the 2010s icon back in time with its oval-shaped Primeknit pattern in neutral hues of black and grey. The true star of the collection is the Ultraboost 1.0 which takes a similar design to the aforementioned NMD_R1 with neutral tones and oval-shaped patterns seen throughout, however, the pair features a pop of semi-coral via the TPU heel counter. Co-branded details are also visible throughout the entire collection with typical adidas branding details infused with Marimekko’s logo.

The Marimekko x adidas Collection is set to release on April 1st, 2023 through adidas, Marimekko, and select retailers online and in-store. Pricing for the collection ranges from $55 for the Aqualette Ocean Clogs and goes up to $210 for the Ultraboost 1.0.
