When Kobe Bryant stepped onto the court on Christmas Day in 2010, the Black Mamba was looking to play Grinch to LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and the newly formed Miami Heatles. The game didn’t end as planned for Kobe, with Miami blowing out the hometown Lakers, but the score isn’t what we remember about that game. Christmas 2010 at what was then the Staples Center was the first time the world got a look at the Nike Kobe 6 Grinch.
Now, 15 years later, the very same pair that Kobe put on to face off against LeBron and the Big 3 is going up for auction through Pharrell’s JOOPITER platform. Photomatched to the 2010 Christmas game to assure game-worn authenticity and signed by Kobe, the auctioned pair is the only pair of Grinches Kobe ever wore in a game. The gradient green colorway features the original red laces and Kobe’s signature across the lateral side of the toebox.
Quite possibly the most popular Kobe sneaker ever released, the Kobe 6 Grinch was originally released in 2010 and given a Protro release a decade later in 2020. Since then, we’ve seen a few limited restocks from Nike on special occasions, and it has remained a grail, and still is worn on NBA courts every holiday season. Right now, aftermarket prices for the Kobe 6 Grinch hover in the $800 range for most sizes.
The JOOPITER Nike Kobe 6 Grinch Game Worn pair is on view at Canon Collectibles in Beverly Hills, California from December 15-19, with additional viewings available by appointment only through the holidays. The auction will determine the value of the shoes, but JOOPITER is anticipating the pair to reach bids into the millions. For all the latest Nike Kobe news, download the Sole Retriever mobile app.
