Ronnie Fieg started Kith back in 2011 and has since grown it into one of the premier destinations to shop for the latest releases, whether that be Kith branded or not. While Fieg sits at the top of the fashion world, he still is connected with the everyday consumer and wants to highlight some of NYC’s black and brown-owned businesses through his latest initiative, Love Thy Community. For their first stop, Kith has employed Vans to create a special colorway of the iconic Slip-On silhouette and matching apparel in collaboration with LaParis Phillips who owns Brooklyn Blooms.
Taking on the typical Slip-On construction of canvas and vulcanized rubber, the upper features a black mudcloth print atop the white base with floral arrangements scattered throughout the upper. Nods to Brooklyn Blooms are further conveyed through the sidewalls text “Creating Beautiful Things Out Of Beautiful Things,” which is the motto of the company. Back on the heel, “STL” and “BKNY” are written in a floral pattern, paying homage to LaParis Phillips’ journey which began in her hometown of St. Louis and has since taken her to Brooklyn, NYC. Phillips also hid some detail behind the green Vans label which boasts the street names that her shop sits on, Nostrand and Fulton. The look is finished off by a white vulcanized rubber midsole paired with a rubber outsole.
Accompanying the sneaker is a short sleeve tee designed by Phillips, featuring the same motto found on the sidewall of the kicks on the back of the tee, also surrounded by floral arrangments. Co-branding between Vans and Brooklyn Blooms is also visible on the rear while the front hosts the logo of Brooklyn Blooms by itself.
The Kith x Brooklyn Blooms x Vans Slip-On and t-shirt are slated to release on August 6th, 2022 through Brooklyn Blooms both in-store and online. As of now, sizing and pricing information is TBA.
