Ronnie Fieg's collaboration with Asics, both on his own and through his Kith label, is a storied chapter in sneaker culture, marked by a prolific output of over 100 sneaker designs dating back nearly 20 years. The partnership between the duo is set to introduce another remarkable addition to their portfolio with a new rendition of the Asics Gel-Lyte III. This release comes on the heels of a highly exclusive by-invitation-only launch of the Gel-Lyte III and an adidas Originals capsule for Spring/Summer 2024.
Like many previous Kith x Asics collabs, this Gel-Lyte III is a masterclass in texture and color. The sneaker features an all-over suede construction that luxuriously wraps the foot, with shaggy suede detailing on the mudguard, midfoot, and heel. This design choice adds a dynamic visual and tactile element to the shoe. Each textured panel is presented in a distinct shade - black near the toe, blue across the midfoot, and red at the heel - creating a striking contrast against the sneaker's neutral palette.
The base layer of the shoe showcases a quilted finish on cream suede, offering a subtle yet sophisticated touch. The iconic Asics tiger stripes on the midfoot are rendered in a muted grey, seamlessly blending with the shoe's design ethos. Branding is thoughtfully applied, with Fieg's signature on the split tongue and Kith and Asics logos on the insole, signifying the collaboration's prestige. The design is completed with a cream-colored Gel-cushioned midsole and a tan rubber outsole.
The Kith x Asics Gel-Lyte III Shaggy Suede will release in 2024. Exactly how the pair will be released is unknown as these could see a standard drop via Kith online and in-store or be part of the “By Invitation Only” initiative. The pair could even be an exclusive for select tiers in Kith’s new loyalty program.
