KAWS, the renowned American pop artist, has positioned himself as one of the best in streetwear and hip-hop culture. Aside from his collectible figurines, KAWS grew to fame through his work with Ye, BAPE, Undercover, and various streetwear/sportswear labels in the 2000s. Once again, working on a collaborative apparel collection, KAWS is teaming up with the Brooklyn Nets on the NBA franchises 2023-2024 City Edition uniforms.
First introduced in 2016, City Edition uniforms have become a staple of each NBA franchise as it allows teams to think outside the box in terms of designs for their player's uniforms. Often, teams look to the culture and heritage of the city they play in for inspiration on the designs. As Sonja Henning, Nike VP of North American League Partnerships, says, “City Edition uniforms were intended to be windows into a city’s culture. Representing the last four years, the fingerprint that city edition describes — that unmistakable identity of a place — is dynamic, and it expands beyond basketball.”
For KAWS’ take on the Nets uniform, we see his usual bubble font take over the branding plastered across the chest and the signature “XX” branding placed on the shorts. Nike logos adorn the chest and hem of the pants, while the mesh design features multi-color abstract art. Other unique details include the Brooklyn Nets logo on the shorts, which also receives a bubble font look.
The KAWS x Brooklyn Nets 2023-2024 City Edition Uniforms will be worn on the court during select games during the 2023-2024 NBA season and will be available for fans to purchase. Nike, and the Brooklyn Nets team store, will sell the collaborative uniform in 2023.
