On February 7th, 2023, LeBron James broke the long-held NBA scoring record of 38,387 points that was held by Laker legend Kareem Abdul Jabbar. The retired Laker legend was in attendance during the game and during a ceremony honoring James’ major achievement “passed the torch” to Bron by handing him the game ball he had just broken the record with. During this moment, Jabbar was spotted rocking adidas gear and not by accident will have an ultra-limited lineup of adidas Forum Low colorways that will pay homage to his illustrious career.
Dubbed the “Evolution Of Excellence” collection, the pack features three different colorways that highlight various portions of Kareem’s career. Of the three there is an “Alpha,” “Accolades,” and “Legacy,” respectively covering the early days of his career, his time with the Lakers, and his fight for social change and racial equality. For the first colorway of the bunch, UCLA shades of blue mixed with light blue hues and gold cover the suede upper while details nodding to the king of the skyhook are present throughout. The “Accolades” pair features tonal cream hues alongside purples, golds, and red alongside branding details showcasing the years in which the Lakers and Kareem were NBA champions. Finally, a black/gold color combo helps create the “Legacy” pair. Featuring imprinted text of quotes from Kareem (and other civil rights activists) including the a quote from Jabbar, “Good thoughts are no better than good dreams, unless they are executed.”
The adidas Forum Evolution Of Excellence Collection will release in extremely limited quantities (33 pairs per colorway) on February 28th, 2023. The “Alpha” colorway will be available to 33 VIP members of the Skyhook Loyalty Club while the “Accolades” pair will launch through select LA-based retailers. adiClub members will have a chance to win one pair of the “Legacy” colorway through sweepstakes.
