The lore behind the Air Jordan lineup is a deep one with stories of MJ almost passing up on a deal with Nike, a possible exit due to his distaste for the Air Jordan 2, and the legendary myth that his Air Jordan 1 High “Bred” was banned from the NBA. For the latter of the three stories, Jordan Brand has somewhat deceived the public for decades as it was actually the Nike Air Ship that was banned by the NBA, however, the story was too good to pass up for the rising star’s signature sneaker and has since been passed along as fact. With it being an early predecessor to the AJ 1, Jordan Brand continues its nostalgia-fueled trip with the Jordan Air Ship SP arriving soon in a “White University Gold” colorway.
As we reported in 2022, the Jordan Air Ship takes the 80s basketball sneaker and retools it with AJ 1 specs on the sole unit while maintaining the same exact upper as the original sneaker. For this White University Gold rendition, stark white leather takes over the majority of the sneaker, as seen on the mudguard, toebox, vamp, eyestays, and midfoot panel, while university gold accents along the collar and Swoosh. More of this golden hue is present on the sockliner while the white-on-white tongue and lace set is broken up by our final hit of the uni gold on the upper through a “Nike Air” tag atop the nylon panel. Finally, the upper comes complete with “Nike Air” stamped in white on the heel and the entire sneaker is finished off through a white AJ 1 midsole and university gold rubber outsole.
The Jordan Air Ship SP White University Gold is set to release on January 27th, 2023 select retailers worldwide with a US release to follow in the coming months.
