Jayson Tatum loves cars. Outside of his on-court skills, raising his kids, and repping St. Louis, Tatum’s love for vintage American muscle cars is one of the most well-known things about the Celtics all-star. After lacing up a few pairs of Ford Mustang-inspired PEs over the years, an unseen player-exclusive version of the Air Jordan 14 for Tatum referencing one of Jordan’s most famous car-inspired colorways has emerged.
The Jayson Tatum Air Jordan 14 Mustang PE starts with the same red suede found on the Jordan 14 Ferrari, raising immediate comparisons and thoughts of the 1966 Grand Prix race memorialized in the movie Ford vs. Ferrari. With Jordan’s car racing businesses and famous love for any kind of competition, it’s only right that he put himself and one of Jordan Brand’s brightest young talents in direct competition with dueling car-themed Jordan 14 colorways. Tatum’s 14 PE features red suede on the toe and lateral side, plus quilted red leather on the medial side, and Mustang emblems on the side panel and heel.

In past years, Jordan has shown out for Tatum’s Mustang obsession with a black patent leather version of the Jordan 14, Jordan 36, and Jordan 37. After seeing three colorways made to match Tatum’s blacked-out vintage Mustang, we’re finally getting a glimpse at this new red version designed by former Jordan Brand designer Kelsey Amy that brings Tatum’s car obsession in line with Mike’s. Kelsey also had her hands in plenty of other iconic Jordan PEs, including the upcoming Voodoo Zion Jordan 1 Low, a collection of NCAA Air Jordan 23s, and most famously the Air Jordan 4 Retro First Class that later informed the recent string of NCAA Air Jordan 4 PEs.
Unless you find a way to race Tatum for a pair, chances are you’ll never get these in your collection. But for all the latest Jordan releases and Tatum signature sneaker news, make sure to check out the Sole Retriever mobile app.
