Over the years, Halloween has gotten rid of the mischief. What used to be a holiday full of toilet-papered front yard trees and smashed pumpkins has become a Hallmark holiday like the rest, with candy for the kids, booze for the adults, and not much by way of devilish delinquency. Sometimes, though, the holiday still has a few cruel tricks up its sleeve.
After nine years forgotten to time, Instagram user @rcclientele3 reminded us of a 2016 Nike Foamposite Jack O’Lantern sample that never came to be, a great trick given there was never a release treat. Looking back in time to the mid-2010s, the black patent Foam with the smiley pumpkin face glowing in the dark connected between the two heels was expected to release in limited numbers for Halloween 2016, but like a pillow case full of Almond Joys, sometimes you don’t get what you want.

This year, Nike has gone hard for the candy-drenched holiday, dropping a pack of monster-themed signature basketball shoes and a candy corn-colored A’One, but still, if Nike wanted to add this Foam to the pack, it would be a serious contender for best of the bunch. Sadly, the carved pumpkin Foams will remain on the cutting room floor.
The 2016 Foamposite Jack O’Lanterns haven’t been seen in nearly a decade, but every time they do resurface, they remind us of what could’ve been one of the best Halloween shoes of all time. If you’re listening, Nike, keep these in mind for next year.
