Ye’s sphere of influence is unrivaled, helping launch the careers of countless designers, rappers, and artists from Virgil Abloh, Matthew M. Williams, and Kid Cudi, just to name a few. One of the more lowkey success stories out of the Windy City and Ye’s circle is one of rap's most renowned barbers, Ibn Jasper. Previously linking with Converse on the Pro Leather silhouette in 2019, he now puts his spin on two colorways of the low-top Converse One Star by retooling the staple model.
Giving the humble One Star a premium makeover, Ibn dresses both the black and white colorways in a mix of tumbled leather, suede, mesh, and vulcanized rubber. Around the toecap and heel sits a suede overlay, coming in a matching color for each colorway. Tumbled leather around the eyestays and midfoot are complemented by rope laces with accenting star branding and nylon straps in an inverted color scheme. Sitting atop the tongue, a checkered flag embroidery infuses racing vibes into the skateboard-friendly silhouette. Another racing motif can be seen along the collar with “Auto Clave: 50-71 PSI” text stamped on. Internally, the cork insole features Ibn Jasper and Converse co-branding in black.
Retooling of the silhouette comes in the form of the pull-tab on the heel as well as the vulcanized rubber that wraps onto the upper. Speaking of the heel, an accenting overlay in yellow and cream sits on the black and white colorways respectively. Underfoot, the look is finished off by a midsole that matches the upper on each respective colorway with the rubber outsole coming in an inverted color scheme.
The Ibn Jasper x Converse One Star in both Black and White is set to release on May 20th, 2022 through Converse and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
