Alongside retro basketball silhouettes like the Jordan Retro line, Dunks, and NB 550s, 90s runners have forever held a special place in the hearts of sneakerheads across the globe. Smaller brands like Mizuno often execute these silhouettes with perfection especially when it comes to collaborations as the Japanese footwear labels Contender silhouette has been a canvas for plenty of team efforts over the last few years. Now teaming up with EU-based retailer Hanon, Mizuno is seemingly bringing soccer themes to the model.
Taking on a mixture of satin, leather, and suede across the upper, the teaser photo showcases a silver, navy blue, aqua, and white-covered silhouette. Silver details take over the satin toebox and quarter panel as well as the leather overlay wrapping from the toe back to the heel. Suede details along the mudguard, eyestays, and perforated heel come in navy blue, accented by aqua-green shades on the Mizuno logo around the midfoot and on the collar. With the post featuring the sneaker inside a soccer net surrounded by soccer balls, it's safe to assume the sneaker’s design is somehow connected to the sport. Branding details for Hanon aren’t visible in this early picture, though expect co-branded details to land somewhere on the model. Rounding out the design is the white EVA-cushioned midsole that features Mizuno’s Transpower cushioning in the heel and a black rubber outsole.
The Hanon x Mizuno Contender is slated to release via a raffle on Hanon's website that will take place from January 26th to February 3rd, 2023.
