The 40th Anniversary of the original Ghostbusters film continues in 2024. With the global success of the franchise's fifth entry, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, released in theatres earlier this year, it's safe to say that in 2024, "if there's something strange in your neighborhood," you're still gonna call Ghostbusters! Forty years later, Ghostbusters' legacy is cemented in history, with a crossover appeal to all generations. Now set for later this year, Ghostbusters will be back with another footwear collaboration to end their anniversary with a bang or a bust, per se.
After seeing the franchise team up with Timberland on a duo of Premium 6-inch Boots, they have now tapped Puma for their next collaborative effort. Puma will become the sixth footwear brand to collaborate with Ghostbusters since A Bathing Ape did so in 2009. Thanks to friends and family of the GB squad, we have a first look at some of what's to come from the Ghostbusters x Puma collection.
The Ghostbusters x Puma Collection will feature multiple Puma Suede colorways and a jacket. The first Puma Suede previewed comes in a black, olive, and green colorway, sporting a black-based leather upper. A distressed tongue and toe add a worn-in element to this pair. The Puma Formstrip logo in olive green dresses the sides, while the midsole is split between olive and lime green.
The Puma branding on the sides, the tongue patch, and the back heel tab come in red, in the same font used on the Ghostbusters jumpsuits, labeling each member's last name prominently on the chest patch. Fat, black laces feature a thin white lace in-between, finished off by green lacetips. Additional details include glow-in-the-dark Ectoplasm stains throughout the upper, and the phrase Are You A God? famously said during the rooftop scene in the original film, is printed on the bottom of the translucent outsole. Other items are not confirmed but will probably be added to this collection as its release draws near.
Following this early look at the green colorway, two new Puma Suede XLs emerged themed after iconic characters in the film. The first takes on a slime-green appearance to honor Slimer, the first ghost captured by the Ghostbusters. A washed suede finish is applied to the upper, while fuzzy suede and large green laces land along the tongue. Custom co-branded Puma and Ghostbuster logos are on the insole and tongue, with a special nod to Slimer on the outsole. Here, you'll find a hotdog graphic reminding us of the scene where Slimer is eating all the hot dogs from a cart on the streets of NYC.
We also have a Suede XL Crush in honor of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. The colors match the look of the giant marshmallow mascot, with a creamy white hue applied to the rubber toecap, suede midfoot, and suede tongue. A blue pop lands on the puffy Formstrip and sockliner, while red is on the added "bandana" tag along the midfoot. Again, Puma and Ghostbusters co-branding is found on the tongue and insole, while the look is completed with a white rubber midsole and clear outsole with an image of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
The Ghostbusters x Puma Collection was released on September 19, 2024, via Fresh Rags. A release via the Puma Mobile App will take place on October 1, 2024, with a wider global launch taking place on October 3, 2024. Coming in men's sizing, retail is set at $95 for the Suede XLs.
