Following initial reports in May, Dick’s Sporting Goods’ acquisition of Foot Locker is finally complete. The $2.4 billion deal also included a shakeup in the executive suite for Foot Locker, as CEO Mary Dillon, responsible for the company’s Lace Up plan, stepped down. Replacing her is a name you may be familiar with: Ann Freeman.

Formerly going by Ann Hebert, the new Foot Locker CEO garnered some negative press in 2021. Her son Joe operated a sneaker resale business and purchased shoes using her credit card while she held the role as VP of North America for Nike. The Swoosh's internal investigation showed no wrongdoings, but her familial connection to the resale world led to her resignation from Nike after rising to the VP of North America with 25+ years under her belt. Shortly after her departure from The Swoosh, Ann was hired by Allbirds.

"I am thrilled to join and lead Foot Locker North America at such a transformative moment," said Ann Freeman. "Together, we have an extraordinary opportunity to build on Foot Locker's rich heritage and deliver innovative experiences to a variety of footwear consumers – from athletes to sneaker enthusiasts and everyone in between.”

At this time, it’s unclear if her son Joe still operates his resale business West Coast Streetwear, but considering her name was cleared in Nike’s investigation and Foot Locker brought her onboard, it’s safe to say she’s still viewed as a trusted veteran in the footwear world.
