Originally collaborating with Nike on a Waffle Runner, sacai has been a key collaborator for the brand over the past three years. Working on classic silhouettes such as the aforementioned Waffle and Nike Blazer, their history of turning vintage models into modern art pieces continues with the upcoming sacai x Nike Cortez.
sacai knows how to put their spin on a classic while still maintaining the original essence of the silhouette. Dressed in the same leather and suede seen on a GR pair of the Nike Cortez, both colorways that have been revealed so far take an avante-garde approach to design. The standard Nike Swoosh along the midfoot is accented by a second Swoosh painted on, partially covering the main branding. Double lacing and double tongue on the upper repeat sacai’s well-known design choice on their Nike collabs. Down on the midsole, multiple tones of color make up the double-stacked design with a protruding heel piece. Visible Zoom Air bubble on the forefoot sitting atop the classic Cortez treaded rubber outsole rounds out this sacai twist on the West Coast’s favorite silhouette.
