Fernando Tatis Jr. of the San Diego Padres has taken his on-field footwear game to new heights in the 2024 MLB season as a sneaker free agent. Recently, Tatis Jr. showcased a new Air Jordan 1 Mid PE dubbed Platino, a stunning pair of cleats that pays homage to his Platinum Glove award received in November 2023. This prestigious accolade, awarded for his defensive excellence, is now immortalized in footwear, thanks to a creative collaboration between Tatis Jr., Nick Drbal of XAMPLE, and the craftsmanship of SURGEON.
This latest pair from Tatis Jr.'s series of 50 custom cleats for the season shines in a metallic silver reminiscent of the platinum trophy, encompassing the entire upper, lace set, and tongue tag. Contrasting black Swoosh accents add depth to the design, while personal nods to Tatis Jr.'s achievements and persona are intricately woven into the cleat. The traditional Jordan Wings logo makes way for a silhouette capturing Tatis Jr.'s memorable catch where he robbed Michael Siani of a home run from the 2023 season, encapsulating his athletic prowess and impact on the game. The right cleat tongue tag features El Nino, Tatis Jr.'s nickname, and the left sports the XAMPLE "X" logo, signifying the collaborative effort behind this bespoke creation.
