Faith Kipyegon, the reigning queen of middle-distance running, is preparing to challenge one of the most iconic benchmarks in athletics: the sub-4-minute mile. To support her historic bid, Nike has outfitted the two-time Olympic gold medalist and current mile world record holder with a specially engineered Breaking4 Speed Kit and a personalized spike built for one purpose — to make the impossible possible.

At the heart of Kipyegon’s kit is the Nike Fly Suit, a one-piece racing outfit crafted with aerodynamics at its core. The suit introduces Nike Aeronodes, tiny half-spherical structures that minimize drag by helping wind flow closer to the body — a performance boost backed by rigorous wind tunnel testing. These nodes, along with lightweight sleeves and headwear, draw on earlier innovations like Nike’s AeroSwift tape used during the 2016 season. The result is a kit that doesn’t just reduce resistance — it redefines it.

On her feet, Kipyegon will debut the Nike Victory Elite FK, a featherlight evolution of her trusty Victory 2 spikes. The new model integrates six permanent titanium spikes embedded directly into the carbon fiber plate, eliminating the need for screw-in receptacles.

This design element streamlines the shoe’s construction and reduces weight — titanium is significantly lighter and stronger than the more commonly used aluminum or steel. This approach has historical precedent, echoing past Nike models like the Jasari and the Kennedy Spike, which featured permanent pins for elite-level performance (though they used aluminum, which is heavier than titanium).

The shoe’s Zoom Air unit underfoot has also been optimized for maximum energy return, with a taller cushion and a slightly higher heel-to-toe offset to boost efficiency. Coupled with a bespoke Flyknit upper 60% lighter than the Victory 2, the spike balances strength and containment with weightlessness, tailored precisely to Kipyegon’s preferences, including a widened forefoot fit.

Completing the kit is a cutting-edge FlyWeb sports bra made from 3D-printed TPU that delivers support without the heat or weight of traditional materials. Precision-crafted to manage moisture and reduce thermal burden, this piece may be small, but it plays a critical role in Faith’s mile-long mission.

While this 1-of-1 kit and performance running shoe will not be available to the public, Faith and Nike have prepped a collection of runners that will be released just before the Breaking4 event. If you're interested in attending the event, which takes place on June 26, you can register online, or you can watch it at home via Nike's YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Douyin accounts as well as on Prime Video starting at 7:15 PM CEST (1:15 PM ET).
