Previously working on a handful of silhouettes including the New Balance 992, retailer DTLR gets another NB model to put their spin on. Inspired by nationwide mask mandates, the DTLR x New Balance 2002R “Masquerade” is here.
Taken directly from the press announcement, the sneaker is “…honing in on the elements of versatility and mystery through creative details and colors.” Constructed with black nubuck and grey suede in the front half of the silhouette, behind this mask is a party of color featuring blue, orange, pink and purple. Along the midfoot, the usual 3M reflective N is actually double stacked in black and grey.
For lacing, the standard 2002R laces are replaced with a brown set of New Balance 992 laces. Working towards the heel, we start to see a pop of color. An orange overlay hosts 2002R branding with a multi-colored heel tab containing “NB'' branding. Down below, a mostly all white NRGY midsole with a red hit on the back side provides a home for the black, green and purple rubber outsole.
The DTLR x New Balance 2002R Masquerade is scheduled to release exclusively through DTLR online and in-store on February 11th, 2022. Retailing for $155, the sneaker will be available in men's sizing.
