After previewing a Spider-Man-themed pair of his eighth signature shoe with adidas by recreating an iconic Spider-Man meme, Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell officially debuted the adidas DON Issue 8 on the court in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Detroit Pistons. With a supportive cage throughout and silver age-inspired textures, the adidas DON issue 8 might be the most wallcrawler-esque Mitchell has had in his career.
The silhouette is comprised of a mix of textured mesh that evokes the Kirby Dots aesthetic made popular by the legendary comic book artist Jack Kirby and a supportive structure that looks like a spider’s web. That breathable yet flexible build stretches across the entirety of the upper, where it meets the midfoot stabilizer that helps provide Mitchell the flexibility for his signature windmill gather.
For the official debut colorway, Mitchell jumped across dimensions to enter the Spider-Verse with a colorway that Peter Parker would be proud of. The colorway features a gradient that begins blue at the toe box, shifts to red at the side panels, and back to blue near the heel. Breaking up the gradient is a black ankle collar that also harbors the Three Stripes trefoil logo on the heel in white.
Additional pops of white show up on the curved three stripes on the heel and the top two eyelets. A black trim also outlines the red TPU shank. The LIGHTSTRIKE Pro midsole found on previous models looks to return to the model as well, with a blue-to-red and back again gradient taking up the midsole. Adding to the theme is a red tongue tag adorned with Mitchell’s spider logo. The outsole shifts from red to blue at the midfoot shank to complete the amazing arachnid aesthetic.
