As a teenager growing up in Los Angeles, specifically in the Crenshaw community, Tobias McIntosh looked around at the skateboarding world that was present in magazines and skate videos wondering why there weren’t more individuals that looked like him in the forefront of the community. To combat this, McIntosh founded Crenshaw Skate Club (CSC), an initiative/collective of skaters who empower inner city youth to join the skating scene that has since morphed into a brand of its own with apparel collections consistently hitting shelves in shops. To date, CSC has yet to work on footwear that released to the public. However, Tobias’ brand has just landed its biggest collaboration and its first retail-ready sneaker with the Nike SB Dunk Low.

First shared by JFGrails on Instagram, an early image showcased only the heel portion of the silhouette, however, a photo later shared by Tuxedo America on Twitter revealed more about the collaborative SB Dunk Low. We can see split branding take over the baby blue cracked leather heel tab with “Nike” and “CSC” text stylized in a font familiar to Crenshaw Skate Club. Tan shades appear on the heel overlay and spine of the heel while brown hues are also present across the cracked leather construction. On the reverse of the tongue, we see a cartoon depiction of children playing with letter blocks and the phrase “Crenshaw Skate Club” on the left and right sneakers respectively. On the insole, more graphics are present along Nike SB and Crenshaw Skate Club branding. As for the rest of the sneaker we see greenish-grey hues take over the sockliner and tongue lining.

Overlays around the mudguard, bottommost eyestay, and heel come covered in griptape that wears away to reveal a secondary shade below. Based on this early photo, the pair should come in a burgundy shade that can eventually be worn down to show a green hue that matches the sockliner, tongue tag, and tongue lining. Rounding out the look is the sail Dunk midsole with burgundy red accent stitching paired with a semi-translucent icy blue rubber outsole that features graphics of children, similar to the graphic on the insole and tongue tag.

The Crenshaw Skate Club x Nike SB Dunk Low will release on August 5, 2023 exclusively through Nike SB-affiliated skate shops and Crenshaw Skate Club. They will not release via SNKRS in the US as per nikesbornothing. Releasing in men’s, preschool, and toddler sizing, the retail prices are set at $130, $90, and $75, respectively.
