Caitlin 1 Fever

Caitlin Clark and her Indiana Fever squad might be feeling down after A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces sent them packing from the playoffs last night, but the fever for Clark is still at an all-time high. Before her team took a major L on the court, Caitlin Clark scored a major W off of it when her signature sneaker, the Caitlin 1, was finally released to the public.

The elite scorer and passer has raised eyebrows with her long-range marksmanship and adept passing, cementing her as one of the faces of the league, and all of sports beyond. So, this was one of the most highly anticipated drops for a Nike signature athlete since LeBron over two decades ago. And in an earnings call on Thursday, October 1, Nike CEO Elliot Hill announced that Caitlin lived up to the hype, becoming the most successful signature sneaker drop in the company’s history.

Outside of CC, women’s basketball is among one of Nike’s strongest growth areas, as the extremely successful A’ja Wilson and Sabrina Ionescu lines are also doing heavy lifting for Nike Basketball. According to that call, Nike’s women’s signature business has grown nearly 500% since the 2022 fiscal year.

The two Caitlin 1 colorways that launched yesterday, Caitlin Blue and Warning Code, sold through multiple restocks at many online and physical locations, including on SNKRS.

22 is the New 23

The two-time All-Star’s signature sneaker launched in 5000 doors, more than double the average for a Nike signature shoe. Not only is the sneaker dropping in a myriad of colors, but Nike also revealed that the Caitlin launch will be a part of the company’s biggest campaign for the holiday season. Whereas Nike mentioned that Jordan Brand’s retro releases will be scaled down in 2027, women’s hoops shoes with Sabrina, A’ja, and now Caitlin in tow, continue to be a bright spot for The Swoosh. Hopefully, that means we can see the long-awaited retro of Dawn Staley’s signature shoe.
