Founded in 2014 by LA native Kacey Lynch, Bricks & Wood has used its platform, design, and high-quality garments to shine a light on the community in which the label resides - South Central, LA - and other communities that often don’t get have a presence in the streetwear world. Receiving praise from the likes of Salehe Bembury, the label caught the attention of New Balance in 2020 after Lynch made a connection with Joe Grondin, NB’s Senior Manager of Global Communications and Energy, a few years prior. Through this, their first collaborative effort in the footwear space was released in 2021 - the Bricks & Wood x New Balance 57/40 - and drew inspiration from a former liquor store located in South Central, Liquor Bank. Now a year removed from this collaboration, early images have surfaced of the upcoming Bricks & Wood x New Balance 9060.
Tackling the almost-year-old silhouette, Lynch and his team at Bricks & Wood have kept the color palette simple with a mixture of cream hues taking over the various suede panels and a sandwich-style mesh in grey sitting beneath all of this. Lynch also has shared the inspiration behind the colorway comes from his grandmothers home and will share the deeper meaning on the design at a later date. A single tone is utilized on the overlays and underlays, however, the suede panels vary between a short-haired, more nubuck-like finish and a fuzzy, hairy finish. Working up the mesh tongue is a set of terrycloth laces in a tonal shade, stopping just below the NB9060 branding atop the tongue and passing through a plastic TPU eyestay that slightly differs in shade compared to the rest of the upper. More New Balance branding can be found along the quarter panel with the lateral side featuring a cream “N” logo backed by a reflective 3M material and the medial side hosting the same letter in a dashed font finish. On the insole, we see our only visible hit of Bricks & Wood branding in the form of a camo-print foam insert and the label's name spelled out in white. Rounding out the design is the chunky 9060 sole unit, coming in grey/cream on the top half and cream/green on the bottom half.
The Bricks & Wood x New Balance 9060 is set to release in January 2023 through Bricks & Wood, New Balance, and select retailers online and in-store. Launching the sneaker through a pop-up in Paris, Kacey Lynch shared details regarding the January 19th event with the flyer posted down below. Other releases will go down throughout the month at pop-ups in LA and NYC while Bricks & Wood's website will drop pairs on January 20th and newbalance.com releasing pairs on January 30th.
