Japanese Retailer Billy’s Teams Up With size? for the adidas Sapporo Japan City Series

Various terrace-style trainers from adidas have launched over the years, inspired by different cities across the globe, coming as part of the City Series collection. One of this illustrious series curators is UK-based retailer size?, which recently added a new Liverpool colorway. Quickly following this is a new Japan City Series, which was partially designed with help from Japanese retailer Billy’s.
Two pairs, one curated by size? and another by Billy’s is inspired by the Japanese city of Sapporo, known for its deep-rooted history of crafting beer and whiskey. Billy’s influence sees the sneaker coated in oily brown hues mimicking whiskey and beer barrels, while size? takes inspiration from a moment in football history that occurred in the city.
During the World Cup in 2002, legendary English footballer David Beckham scored a crucial goal at the Sapporo dome to win against Argentina in the second game of the group stage, though the story runs deeper.
In 1998, Beckham drew a red card against Argentina during the World Cup round of 16 after an altercation with Diego Simeone. After losing the star player for the rest of the match, England lost, causing Beckham to be lambasted by the English press. Drawing inspiration from his 2002 performance, the color palette of green, red, and cream pays tribute to the adidas Fevernova ball, used during that year’s World Cup and the one David scored with in his moment of redemption.
The size? x Billy’s x adidas Sapporo Japan City Series Pack will release on June 6, 2025. Described by size? as an “A-side and B-side” release, the size?-designed pair will be exclusive to the UK retailer, while Billy’s pair will remain exclusive to them.
