All throughout Michael Jordan’s NBA career, his signature line with Nike would feature a premium numbered model (a la Jordan 1, 2, 3, etc.) on top of scaled-down takes that included lifestyle models like the Jordan Nu Retro 1 Low. Taking its inspiration from the coveted AJ 1 Low, its debut in 2002 was met with little fanfare and eventually faded out of existence. That is, until now. With OG colorways of the model like the “Chicago” already confirmed for a return, Jordan Brand’s latest athlete to get a signature silhouette, Jayson Tatum, will make his mark on the Nu Retro 1 Low.
Like many of Tatum’s special colorways, nods to his hometown of University City, Missouri on top of details about himself appear on this St. Louis Cardinals-like colorway thanks to the “U.City,” “J,” and “98,” embroidery found on the toe, tongue, and heel respectively. As for the design, split cream leather panels acting as the eyestays can be found along the midfoot with a debossed Jordan Wings logo visible, sitting atop a white leather base. Along the toebox and tongue sits a vibrant red leather, accented by white laces and the white “J” found on the lace loop. More cream leather is found on the heel with Tatum’s aforementioned birth year, 1998, stamped in red. Rounding out the design is a white rubber midsole featuring Jumpman branding in cream paired with a cream and red rubber outsole.
The Air Jordan Nu Retro 1 Low Jayson Tatum is set to release in January 2023 through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $120. Keep it locked to our Twitter and the Sole Retriever mobile app to stay updated on the latest in sneakers, streetwear, and more.
