A Rare Air Jordan 7 Joker Sample From 1992 Emerges Online

Although the Air Jordan 7 may not get the same love as other retro Air Jordan models, its history is just as illustrious as the other sneakers MJ laced up during his NBA career. Five colorways were launched in 1992 when the sneaker first hit the market: Bordeaux, Hare, Raptor, Olympic, and Cardinal. However, plenty of other sample colors never made it to market during the original run, including this pictured Joker colorway.

Although this is not the first time the pair has appeared online, it is one of the clearest looks we’ve gotten in recent memory. The white, purple, red, and aqua-green color palette draws comparisons to one of Batman’s most well-known enemies, the Joker. However, it's not necessarily a direct nod to the character. White leather overlays appear on the overlays, stretching from the toe to the collar and heel.

Purple suede details are found on the base layer, present on the toe, midfoot panel, and collar underlay, all of which (sans the toe) come with perforations. Air Jordan text on the tongue and the Jumpman along the collar contrast the two-tone look through their red palette, while we see more red used on the 23 on the heel tab. Here, we see our first hits of aqua-green on the heel tab, extending down onto the white, red, and purple foam midsole. Completing the look is the multi-color outsole.

With Jordan Brand seemingly vaulting the Air Jordan 7 for the time being, as the last time the model released in adult sizes was back in 2023 with the Chambre, it’s a long shot that this unreleased sample will ever see a retail release. We can never say never, though, as Jordan Brand has surprised us by dropping samples, most notably with the Jordan 1 High Shadow 2.0.
