While Michael Jordan never took the court in a pair of low-top Air Jordan 5’s, the silhouette is often used as a creative means for Jordan Brand to create stories, be it a Chinese New Years' homage or a way for graduates to celebrate their next step in life. For its latest iteration, Jordan Brand adds a print seemingly inspired by abstract artwork with the Air Jordan 5 Retro Low Expression.
Taking on a coconut milk suede material across its overlays and underlays, the colorway gets a Rorschach-esque print splattered throughout in black. Going up towards the tongue, plastic eyestays keep the monochromatic coconut milk shade as do the laces and plastic cage making up the majority of the tongue. Atop this, a suede patch hosting a black Jumpman embroidery is located near the mesh sockliner, also coming in coconut milk. While many experimental sneakers often utilize the insole for artwork or wild designs, this "Expression" colorway keeps things plain with a two-tone white and black design courtesy of the Jumpman logo.
Along the midfoot, the iconic plastic side cage comes in a semi-translucent tonal shade. Back on the heel, another embroidered Jumpman makes an appearance in the accenting black color. Underfoot, the AJ 5 midsole with an exposed Air Unit in the heel is dressed in a coconut milk shade with silver piping the classic shark teeth near the toe. Rounding out the look is a semi-translucent rubber outsole featuring a Jumpman above the sole.
The Air Jordan 5 Retro Low Expression W is slated to release on September 24th, 2022 through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers online and in-store. Coming exclusively in women’s sizing, the retail price is $180.
