The Air Jordan 5 Retro El Grito Releases Tomorrow

Jordan Brand is gearing up for a remarkable year in 2024 with many exciting releases, and the iconic Air Jordan 5 is set to stand out. Fans of the brand saw the return of the beloved Olive colorway and a new women's exclusive Lucky Green. Still, there's even more buzz with a new addition to the lineup. According to insiders Brandon1an and zSneakerheadz, a Mexican-inspired Jordan 5 dubbed El Grito will be released this year.

Initially reported to feature a color palette of diffused taupe, dark pony, sail, and apple green, Sole Retriever can confirm this pair has been scrapped in favor of a Sail-based colorway. It is still possible that the other colorway will be released, though it is likely to be in limited quantities.

The first images of this El Grito Air Jordan 5 came from the grand opening of a new Nike and Jordan Brand store in Mexico City. As for the inspiration, the pair honors Miguel Hidalgo's famous speech, which marked the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence. This historic event is a pivotal moment in Mexican history and is celebrated annually as a national holiday marking the nation's independence from the Spanish empire.

Across the upper, we see sail leather take over the upper with embossed details on the mudguard, heel overlay, and tongue referencing traditional Mexican architecture. The usual plastic cage on the midfoot is replaced with perforated leather, making this pair even more luxurious. Lining the inside of the sneaker is a red mesh, and we see hits of green on the lace lock along the tongue. Underfoot sits a cream Jordan 5 midsole with split shark teeth designs, the right pair in green and the left in red to reference the Mexican flag, while the look is complete with a gum and cream outsole.

The Air Jordan 5 Retro El Grito Sail will release on September 12, 2024, through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers online and in-store.
