Known for its high-profile auctions and exquisite collections, Heritage Auctions is making headlines in the sneaker world. A prototype of the iconic Air Jordan 2 is currently up for auction, and it's significantly different than the model that would go on for release.
The Air Jordan 2 Prototype does, however, carry a handful of details that align with the retail version of the Jordan 2. The absence of the Swoosh symbol and the toebox's shape should ring a bell for Jordan aficionados. More unique features include a nylon tongue harkening back to the AJ1 design and Nike branding positioned on the Jordan Wings logo instead of the traditional "Air Jordan" text. Moreover, its overall shape is more akin to the AJ1, particularly in the heel overlay and collar. The lateral midfoot also hosts a Nike-branded Wings logo. The sole unit shows off a design reminiscent of the era, with rubberized portions at the toe and heel, while the mid-part features exposed EVA foam. The outsole design mirrors that of the AJ1.
The unreleased Air Jordan 2 Prototype is currently available to bid on Heritage Auctions' website, with the bidding ending June 21. As of this writing, the highest bid is at $575.
