Any up-and-coming ball player entering the NBA will have mixed emotions about facing some of the players they idolized in their youth. You may have the chance to posterize someone you had a poster of in your room. Ray Allen went through this with Michael Jordan, but he only faced off against MJ 12 times and never put him on a poster. However, there was a bit of bias on both sides as Allen was one of the five founding members of Team Jordan, the first wave of players to be signed to Jordan Brand. To honor Ray Allen going from fan to foe with His Airness, Jordan Brand is set to drop a pair of Air Jordan 12s.
Air Jordan 12 Retro Idols Become Rivals Details
Referred to by some as the Air Jordan 12 Bucks, the Idols Become Rivals colorway is a clear throwback to a Ray Allen Air Jordan 12 PE from Allen’s time with Milwaukee. The pair Allen laced up featured his name and number on the lateral heel, but this retail version, inspired by the PE, forgoes those callouts to the 3-point legend. Another notable change from the PE to the retail version is the iridescent Jumpman tab on the upper, as the OG player-exclusive was done in a tonal green hue.

The white quilted leather upper paired with a Bucks green shade on the mudguard and sockliner contrasts the purple hues of the “TWO” text embroidered on the tongue. Moving up, the Jumpman gets a green finish, while the lace eyelets, which were golden on the OG, are done in the same iridescent finish as the Jumpman tab. Finishing the shoe is the green and white midsole paired with a green and purple rubber outsole.
