While many of us consider Michael Jordan to be the greatest basketball player in history, it’s important to remember that this wasn’t always the case. Back when His Airness was first drafted to play professionally, he wasn’t the first choice for many teams. In fact, rumor has it that the only reason the Chicago Bulls picked MJ was because none of the “big names'' were available anymore, and of course, we all know what happened next. In honor of this, Nike is releasing the Air Jordan 1 Mid SS "Rookie Season," and it’s stuffed full of cool details that are inspired by the Hall of Famer’s early days.
Featuring an all-leather construction, the AJ 1 Mid “Rookie Season” pays homage to the Bulls with a white and university red palette. Glossy patent panels hit the Swoosh and ankle flap, where you’ll find a jeweled winged basketball emblem in an iridescent finish. Jordan’s signature is scrawled across the quarter panel on both sides of the shoe, and around the heel, “CLUB: CHICAGO, 1984 - 1985” references his formative rookie years. Of course, we can’t talk about these AJ 1s without mentioning the special edition shoebox that houses all kids exclusive AJ 1 Mid SS editions. It features an illustration of the basketball shoe from all sides, and encourages young creatives to color it in and design their own pair.
The Air Jordan 1 Mid SS Rookie Season GS is set to release in Holiday 2022. It will drop at Nike, via the SNKRS app, and at select Jordan Brand retailers worldwide, in-store and online. Coming in gradeschool, preschool, and toddler sizing, retail is set at $120, $85, and $70.
