When it comes to collaborative efforts, Afew and Asics come up with compelling stories that are conveyed well through their material use and color palette. After previously releasing their “Beauty Of Imperfection” Pack that helped raise funds for a local children's hospital, the two are back for another great cause, mental health, with 10% of the proceeds of the upcoming Afew x Asics GT-II “Uplifting Pack” going to a mental health organization.
During the process of designing this pack, the crew at Afew took inspiration from their personal bouts of depression, coming up with the theme of “looking up” that is prevalent on both the box and sneaker itself. Showcased in two colorways, "Polar Shade Carbon" and "Blush Chocolate Brown," the silhouette gets a build composed of leather and thick premium suede. On the "Polar Shade Carbon" pair, tonal whites and greys work throughout the various materials, creating a gradient look of lighter shades to darker shades from heel to toe. For the "Blush Chocolate Brown," the same gradient look is utilized, going from tonal whites and greys to a mix of chocolate brown and pink near the rear.
Branding details remain the same on both pairs with Asics text landing on the tongue, heel, and co-branded insole. Also present on the heel is a brain graphic, tying in with the mental health theme. Underfoot, a white Gel midsole gets paired with a two-tone outsole borrowing shades from the upper as well as a brain graphic present on the semi-translucent heel.
The Afew x Asics GT-II Uplifting Pack is set to release on June 10th, 2022 exclusively through a raffle on Afew’s website. Coming in men's sizing, the pairs will retail for €139.95 (approx $150 USD).
