The adidas Y-3 Megaball Reimagines the adidas Top Ten 2000

While Yohji Yamamoto’s Y-3 project with adidas has been ongoing for over two decades, the brand rarely tackles the basketball world. They last touched the sport in 2018 with their redesigned take on the BYW. Yamamoto is returning to the court in 2026 with a new silhouette inspired by the adidas Top Ten 2000, the Y-3 Megaball.
The usual mesh and leather paneling of the Top Ten 2000 is redone to feature premium leather throughout the design. The original’s toecap remains in place, but you’ll find the most obvious change as you move to the midfoot. Here, Y-3 branding is part of the leather panel wrapped around the midfoot, with the logo for the label embossed into the design.
More branding hits for the adidas label are found on the tongue tag with a contrasting Y-3 logo and on the insole. Lacing is minimal, with only three eyelets present on the medial side of the upper and three nylon straps to help secure the tongue. Finishing the sneaker is the leather lining the interior of the model, and the Top Ten 2000-inspired rubber midsole and outsole.
The adidas Y-3 Megaball will release in January 2026 through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price has yet to be announced.
