Though originating in Germany, the tradition of waiting for Punxsutawney Phil to predict the end of Winter has become ingrained in American society, specifically in the northeast. With their German heritage, adidas is looking to shine a light on the Pennsylvanian-born tradition with the upcoming adidas Supernova Cushion 7 “Groundhog Day.”
Ready for both early Spring and an extended Winter, this adidas Supernova Cushion 7 takes inspiration from archival runners of the 2000s, with its use of leather and mesh across the upper. Layered on top of the sesame-colored and black mesh are hits of brown leather, located along the mudguard, eyestays, midfoot, and heel. Tonal brown laces work towards the top of the tongue and its grey leather housing the Supernova branded tag. The Three Stripe branding along the midfoot comes in a tri-toned brown, light brown, and silver, acting as eyestays for the laces nearby.
On the heel, a multi-color arrangement of grey, light brown, and white tint bring on the early aught’s style the silhouette is aiming to portray. Considering the theme of Groundhog Day, the creature itself makes an appearance on the white tint portion of the heel in black, split with two different expressions between the left and right pair, as well as the packaging of the sneaker. Underfoot, the adiPRENE+ cushioning system comes in white, grey, black, and tan while the multi-color rubber outsole finishes off the look.
The adidas Supernova Cushion 7 Groundhog Day is set to release on June 25th, 2022 through the adidas Confirmed app and select Three Stripes retailers online and in-store.
