adidas Celebrates The Stan Smith Silhouette’s Stanniversary

A classic in the fashion world, the adidas Stan Smith has transcended the tennis court and made its way into the closets of millions of consumers since its introduction back in 1965 when it was still called the “Robert Haillet.” One of the many reasons the sneaker’s endorsee was changed is Stan Smith’s victory at the 1972 Wimbledon Championship as six years later his name would don the silhouette. To pay homage to the 50th Anniversary of his win in ‘72, adidas is set to release a celebratory Stan Smith colorway titled “Stanniversary.”

Taking on a vintage color palette across its partially recycled leather, suede, and rubber construction, the sneaker harkens back to Stan Smith’s victory in the Wimbledon Tournament through design details throughout. From toebox to heel, an off-white leather dresses the sneaker with standard Stan Smith branding making it onto the tongue in a burgundy shade. Along the midfoot, his name comes debossed rather than stamped on, sitting between the perforated Three Stripes branding. Back on the heel, a suede patch in grey houses more co-branding with a Trefoil logo and Stan Smith text atop it in black. Internally, the white foam insole and leather sockliner get accented by gold text denoting the date on which Smith won the Wimbledon Championship and standard adidas branding respectively. Rounding out the look is a cream white midsole paired with a cloud white rubber outsole.

The adidas Stan Smith Stanniversary is set to release on July 19th, 2022 through adidas and select Three Stripes retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $100.
