As we all know by this point, adidas has split ties with its biggest collaborator to date, Ye, and the Yeezy brand. Even with such a strong innovator out of the picture, design teams at The Three Stripes have plenty of creative juice in the tank to pump out brand new designs that (hopefully) will capture the attention of sneakerheads and the general public. Taking an iconic archival silhouette that has just begun to receive a series of retro releases, the adidas Crazy 1, adidas is bringing Kobe Bryant’s former signature silhouette into the present day with the newly revealed adidas Crazy New Era.
In these early photos of the sneaker taken for an adidas Basketball campaign, we get a glimpse at the “Stormtrooper” colorway which comes in an identical fashion to the Crazy 1 bearing the same naming convention, however, the model receives a very Yeezy-esque overhaul with its laceless construction and organic-like shape. One important thing to note about this model is this may be one of the first designs Jerry Lorenzo of FOG fame has had his hand on (aside from his Fear of God Athletics line with adidas) as the famed designer maintains an executive role at adidas Basketball. Looking at the model, we see the same toecap found on the original model in the Crazy line remain while the large midfoot panel receives a smoother makeover and wraps around to the heel portion while forgoing any major Three Stripes branding. Neoprene takes over the internal sock-like bootie with the model now featuring a zipper down the spine of the tongue. Underfoot we see a similar sole unit to the OG Crazy 1 with a white and black combo taking over the midsole and outsole respectively.
The adidas Crazy New Era in the Stormtrooper colorway is set to release in early 2023 through adidas and select Three Stripes retailers online and in-store. As of this writing, sizing and pricing information is TBA.
