March Madness has lived up to its name so far. We’ve seen upsets and last-second buzzer beaters across the NCAA tournament. Let’s not talk about Florida’s heartbreaking loss last night… ok? New sneakers debuting during the tournament are always a plus, with adidas giving Kansas Jayhawks star Darryn Peterson a new prototype basketball shoe to wear on the court. The shoe in question is a new 3D-printed performance basketball shoe, which adidas has yet to give a name to.

Part of adidas’ new Project R.A.P. (Radical Athlete Perception) platform, the unnamed 3D-printed basketball shoes provide a bespoke fit and tailored support, cushioning, and stiffness for athletes. The silhouette clearly draws some influence from the internal bootie construction found on the recent adidas Harden releases, with the neoprene bootie supported by a 3D-printed shell. A lattice structure similar to the design of the Climacool silhouette sits on the midfoot.

Outside of this announcement and the debut on the court by Peterson, not much else is known about the shoe itself, especially the tech within. We do know that there will be an American football cleat using this same 3D-printed platform under Project R.A.P. that is expected to debut and release later this year.

The basketball shoe is also expected to hit retail shelves in the coming months, though the retail price has not been announced.
